Basement Window Curtains you ask? Well… yes. To me, they’re important. And maybe they should be important to you too! Here’s the story…

In the year 2012, I relocated. I had always lived in a house with a basement. So when searching for a house, a basement was mandatory. Basements are usually used for good times. Theater rooms, sports themed man caves, music rooms, trophy rooms, kids play rooms, exercise rooms, laundry rooms, extra bedrooms, etc.

I finally found a house that had been built in the mid 1960’s. Bedford stone, needed some work but a nice house. The basement had been finished in the 70’s so I decided to update it with new paint, carpet, lighting and more. When we finished the update, I was left with five ugly, steel windows.

I thought I would do an internet search and quickly find some basement window curtains. Much to my surprise, I found nothing. The only things out there were valences that were too wide, too long and wouldn’t fit the bill. So in my desperation I had my mother sew a couple of curtain panels for one room in my basement where I could put my valued possessions. Didn’t give much thought to the other four basement windows, until a few years later I decided to redecorate the basement. Searched the internet again for basement window curtains with no luck. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands.

I realized that there must be hundreds of thousands of houses built between the 1940’s to 1990’s that did not have access to nice window coverings for their basement windows.

My research and development consisted of my wife and I driving around our neighborhood and others to see what window treatments were in their basement windows. We saw basement windows stuffed with pillows, insulation, bedspreads, sleeping bags, cardboard, styrofoam and more. Nothing nice about that, especially since it blocks all natural light. We then realized that there was a need for a decorative solution to basement windows.
